Falklands

One theory about the Falklands War is this: The Russians never had enough wheat, the yields in Khazakstan were always very poor, and they looked abroad for supplies, in Canada and Argentina particularly. They were the chief buyers of Argentinian grain for many years. They thought that they should create a new Cuba, and installed a Fifth Column which influenced Galtieri. They fed him the line that were he to invade the Falklands, Britain would be secretly grateful and not try to stop it, knowing full well that Thatcher would in fact respond as she did. The point of it all was to topple Galtieri and establish a left-wing backlash government under Russian hegemony. Only partially successful, like so many complicated Russian plans.
